Window Thickness

3rd March 2009

Would somebody please tell me what thickness the side windows should be? I don’t think that the nasty things in my boat are original and I don’t like to trust that they are the normal thickness.

Were all windows originally dark grey or do they vary according to hull colour?

Interesting that the windows do not get a mention in the rules. Does this mean that we are all illegal for having them fitted given the closed nature of our rules?

Thanks,

Bob

I replaced 6mm windows with 6mm windows late last 2008 – smoke grey acrylic – other colour and thickness options were available.

Hadlow Marine Services made them up using the old old windows as templates (included cutting, bevelling edges and drilling fixing holes and supplied with Scapa bedding tape attached). www.hadlowmarine.co.uk for about

James,

Thanks for the tip. From the web site these guys appear to be a much better source for the windows than going to a plastics shop and cutting them out myself.

Only other thing I forgot to say is that I covered the holes whilst the old windows were away as templates in plywood and tried to seal with gaffer tape. I got them to return the old windows as well so ‘next time’ (hopefully not soon) they can use the original windows as templates without leaving two gaping holes and hassle with plywood.

This guy is a great find, particularly if you live in the South East corner of the country.

New windows made inside a week complete with holes and sealant. Everything matched up perfectly. The longest part of the job was scraping the old sealant off the boat.

Given that I am out of time on getting the boat ready it was helpful that this job ended up taking me about an hour to complete.
