Hi All, Who is planning to attend Inverkip? (15th & 16th May) & Scotish Series? (28th to 31st May) prior to the Nationals. Are we likely to have a good fleet at both? We are seriously considering partisipating in both.
Regards
Dave

Hi Dave and all,
BFG is up for all of it, and, probably, with you at Whitby as well. On the basis that we have never sailed Scotland, let alone a loch, we thought a bit of practice might be a good idea!
Our plan is to sail to Tarbert on 27th May from Kip, returning to Kip on the Tuesday 1st June. Duncan, of Kip Marina, has offered all of us some very cheap lift-in/out prices in between regattas – I am sure I mentioned this in my long letter before Christmas. It is cheaper to dry sail than moor, which sounds fine to me.
Anyone got any advice about accommodation at the various places? We haven’t got around to researching this yet, so if you are local, or have done it before, any info would be gratefully recieved

I’ve just entered Kip Regatta (15th and 16th May) and have already entered Tarbert Scottish Series……..but am now getting concerned about who else will be at these events.
Kip Regatta looks as if it is Saraband (me) and Wicked Wookie……with Blue Tack and BFG having previously hinted they might race….it would be useful to know if these two are doing Kip and also if any other Sonatas are entering as otherwise its me and Euan having a match race! SO have already advised that they won’t be at Kip.
Regarding Tarbert, entry looks disappointing given that the stated intention of many in the pre-Xmas period was to use this event as a warm-up event for the Nationals. Just 9 boats and a number of notable absences (eg BFG)…..but great to see Serenade coming from Whitby, which is a great way to persuade / blackmail us Scottish boats to return to their club for the Northerns!!
Current Scottish Series entry list is:
GBR8089N Misselaineyus Kenny Allan Dalgetty Bay SC
GBR8189N Blue Tack Dave Boatman RYA
GBR8206N Serenade Ian & Alison Paton Whitby YC
GBR8217N So Neil McLure Dalgety Bay SC
GBR8243N Peshwa 4 Timothy Tindal Helensburgh SC
GBR8304N Jazz Rosie/Manderson CCC/Helensburgh
GBR8314N Saraband Mark Taylor Prestwick SC
GBR8705N Chaos Theory Colin McDermid Cove SC
GBR8901N Wicked Wookie Euan Aitken CCC

KIP REGATTA
Saraband have booked a table at the Kip Hotel, Inverkip on Saturday night at 1930, provisionally for 8 people (eg Saraband and Misselainyous) but they have more space if required. If Bluetacks or Wicked Wookies or anyone else wants to join us there it would be great news.
regards
Mark
Saraband 8314
PS……….if anyone knows someone who can do cockpit at Kip and / or Scottish Series then please contact me ASAP. Accomodation is sorted with a mother ship available for Kip Regatta and B&B booked for Tarbert so just need boots, waterproofs and beer kitty contribution.

Hi Mark,
BFG is en route from Kent to Kip this Thursday. We hope to be with you guys Friday pm. at Kip Marina. We would love to join you at the Kip Hotel on Saturday night. Currently we are three, and we also lack a cockpit for Kip, so, if you have more than one volunteer, perhaps you would be king enough to pass on the second best! Thanks!
I cannot find any NOR for Kip, so is it sortable on the Friday afternoon?
We are also going to do Tarbert and I had asked Neil (McClure) about accommodation, but with not much success. We do need some, so if you have contacts, that too would be great.
And then the Nationals, also a plea for accommodation. As we are not familiar with the geography of the area, p’raps you could help us out. Thanks.
Chris

Great to hear that you are actually coming – we thought we’d lost you!!
I’ll up the table booking for Saturday night and see what we can rustle up for a cockpit man, although as you know I’m also struggling on that score.
Kip Regatta NOR and SIs are on www.rwyc.org.uk but basically there is a 1030 timing gun on each day with first start at 1040 and we are the 2nd to last (6th) start. 3 races Saturday, 2 on Sunday. £40 to enter as you have missed the discounted entry rate, but Duncan might cut you a deal given the fuel you will have spent!
Saraband will be craned in Friday morning by the yard but we won’t get there until later in the afternoon to put up the mast etc….Kenny Allan on Misselainyous is also launching Friday, not sure when Dave Boatman / Bluetack are coming.
Tarbert accommodation is difficult if you haven’t anything arranged……..there are a number of log cabin / chalets / caravans available if someone is prepared to drive as chances of anything in village are slim. Neil McLure does seem to have an inside track on what is available.
See you Friday!!

Hi Chris,
If you go to the Helensburgh SC link on the home page nationals link on this site and click on Sonata National Championships there are plenty of B&B accomodation details in Helensburgh for the nationals. Regarding crew for the Kip and Tarbert very few of the Helensburgh boats have entered mainly a crewing problem I suspect but I will put the word about that you and Mark are looking for crew and how to contact you.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for that. I will chat to Duncan. I did ask Neil about Tarbert Accomm quite a while ago but we didn’t get anywhere. We will put a bit of effort into it again.
See you Friday, and looking forward to Saturday, racing and supper!

Hi Chris,
I emailed you on 20 February at Fleet design from my “Neil and Roz” email. Sorry – I probably wasn’t that helpful but I did reply. You sent me a similar question a week or so later and I forwarded the same email again. We were emailing a lot at the time so maybe it got lost in the pile.
I’ve copied it out below complete with typing mistakes.
Cheers,
Neil

Hi Chris,
I hope you enjoy your summer tour of the north.
Kip usually has 4 or 5 Sonatas but it’s a good regatta and a good warm up with usually the main contenders for TArbert inall classes in attendacen. The party at Kip is the best of the year.
Unfortunately the Kip Hotel, inverkip is the only option for accomodation and it will be booked out. Nearby Fairlie, Wemyss Bay or the Travel Innn at Greenock are all a short taxi away though. The last few years we have taken sleeping bags crashed in friends boats or cars. Not been a problem.
Alas Tarbert is tricky for accomodation although falling numbers recently have made it a bit easier. We hire a flat off the locals and its the same one every year so I don’t have any tips. The Tourist office might help. The CCC isn’t usually very helpful on this.
Stonefield Castle is more reasonably priced than it used to be
Duncan from Kip sails and is very helpful and thats a great deal you have made. We tow the boat to TArbert and launch there but if you have time to sail it over from Kip its a great sail.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your replies – Tim was away last night so he may not be able to update on the entries but I am still hoping we will reach 20 if all who have said they are coming turn up. The weather forecast for Tarbert is looking much better this morning I hope you all have a great weekend. I almost wish I was coming.

Hi Dave
I have just tonight been sorting out my callender (and massaging the bank account and credit card) Wicked Wookie will be attending Kip, Scottish Series and the Nationals.
Also if it is of interest to anyone I noticed that the east patch race committee have provision in there entry form / NoR for entry to single races in any of there Wednesday night series at a cost of £5.00 as long as you are entered 24 hours before the race. Could be a nice wee warm up before some events of you are up this way on the Wednesday night
NoR and Entry form available from HSC website link below if it works if not copy and paste
