As a few of you know my wife and I sold our high performance skiff dinghy and purchased a Sonata so that we could continue sailing after the arrival of our son. Calum went sailing for the first time at 4 weeks of age in a very controlled and highly safe manner – his lifecot was never far away. We had previously written to Sailing today for advice on boats that might be suitable for us apart from the Sonata (which my wife and had both sailed on as kids). I have tried to attach a photo to show how we did it. Calum loves the motion of the boat and can look up from his swinging bouncer at mum and dad in the cockpit.
Our update letter and photos confirms that children need not completely ruin your chance of going sailing, they just modify they way in which you do it.
