George Jack
Hello Sailors,
I am going to be installing a new in boom outhaul system which cleats off on the boom, and am wondering what purchase those with this system already have?
Thanks,
George Jack.

Thanks Bob,
Will have a look at boom and come up with a plan for an 8:1 system.
George.

George,
You need at least 8 to 1. I currently have 4 to 1 and it is not enough but will improve by the Nationals.
What I have done, successfully, on both the Snotty and previous boats is to bring the outhaul rope out of a sheave on one side of the top of the rear of the boom behind the black band, through the eye on the clew of the sail and back into a slot on the other side which is about an inch long and a suitable width for the outhaul rope, cut in the top of the boom running forward from the back. A knot in the end of the outhaul stops the rope coming out of the slot.
It is a cheap, easy way to get the first 2 to 1 on the ouhaul.
If you finds that the sail is difficult to move try spraying both the foot rope of the sail and the groove in the boom with Holts Pro Lube. It contains Silicon and works wonders.
