Hi, I am new to the class and thouroughly enjoyed my first dose of sonata racing up at Scottish series! At Tarbet it was pointed out to me that my mast step is further forwards than everyone else. I am not one that likes being different so I thought I might try and move it back though I am not sure it is as simple as just dropping the mast, moving the step and drilling new holes? Does anyone have any experience of moving their mast step and if so how did you go about it, what did you fill the holes with etc.
Thanks,
Colin

Hi Colin,
The aft face of the mast should be level with the cap (upper) shroud base ie that is approx 2745 mm from aft face of anchor chain bow fairlead (nominal for info only). I think when I fitted a new mast foot many years ago which required new holes to be drilled I filled the old holes with a marine filler. The spreaders should not be left free to swing back and forward make sure they are each fastened with 2 bolts so the cannot swing and the spreader tips if possible should be 30mm in front of aft face of mast. This should stiffen up the mast. Hope this helps.
