Lifting Keels Again

Matt Hardwick has sent me the following query. We’ve had some correspondence on this before including a request for the IRC handicap of a lifting keel sonata but I’m not sure if we ever got an answer. Can anyone add any information to help Matt – please reply to the bulletin board so that we have the answer for future reference.
I am considering purchasing a lifting keel Sonata. My home ground is the Channel Islands and as you probably realise there is a large tidal range which makes it quite useful to have the ability to dry out. What I would like to know is just how much difference there is in performance between a “lifter” and a fixed keel.
Many thanks,
Matt Hardwick.
