One of mine was broken, so a friend who claimed to be a fibre-glass expert promised to fix it. I took them both off and delivered them to him, and he promptly ‘accidentally’ left them outside his gate where the refuse men disposed of them!!!
However, we have taken the opportunity to make new ones that are stronger and can actually be stood upon. They are being made of marine ply, and a wooden batten is glued to the underneath of the length of the long (unsupported) edge, and a smaller batten at 90 degrees from the middle of this to the middle of the second edge (the hinge side). They are now currently being glassed over which will make them look similar to the originals. They will be slightly heavier than the originals, but I believe the additional bracing will make the foredeck truly usable. If you are interested, I will send you photos of the finished product together with the weight. It should be done in another week.

If you are sending photos and details of the new bomb doors in digital form, will you please include me in the mailing ( webmaster@sonata.org.uk ) and I’ll put something on the hints and tips section of the web site.
Thanks
