Hi All
Just bought a Lift Keel Sonata called “Edwin Santes” and was looking for any old info on it ie if it was raced where abouts and how it did.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards

I think she (he?) might have been one of 4 lifting keel Sonatas that were used at Plas Menai (the Welsh national watersports centre in North Wales) and which were all named after Welsh Saints.
Racing wise they were used at occasional races at Port Dinorwic Sailing Club and also in the Menai Straits Regatta fortnight with trainee crews and helms…….they learnt a lot in a week!
Many in North Wales will also recall that they were used for the Association of North Wales Sailing Club Match Racing championship where their identical ages / features etc made them excellent for this event. More than once the juniors from the 420s hammered the so called experts from the keelboats and for many (including me) it was our first experience of a Sonata.
They were well looked after by the full time bosun and his staff and got new gear when needed – although it always felt like the best sails were reserved for when the staff raced the boats!
They were eventually sold on and replaced with Hunter 707s
