Tiller position transom

14th April 2009

Does ayone have a photo illustrating the position of the tiller on the rudder relative to the top of the transom?

Should there be any clearance between the tiller and the transom top?

Thanks

James

I don’t have exact measurement but I do have a photo of the stern which gives a pretty good indication. Perhaps two inches clearance?

I have been unable to attach the photo to this reply but could send it to you separately if you email me

Hi – you’ve probably sorted this by now, but I found a photo I didn’t know I had – the clearance on this and another photo looks like a few mm at most. Mine is a lifting keel version.

Yes thanks to Tim and Alan for your pictures. The new rudder was a differnet size and subtely different shape to the old cracked one which was interesting to observe. I have the lifting keel version, but my rudder is not fixed it can rise a few inched on sliding pintles. I’ve concluded that when raised the bottom of the rudder should be level with the keel stub when dried out, was a tad concerned it might be longer which I guess might have snapped the rudder or ‘tripped’ the boat over.

Starting to make some real progress, hull neatly stripped and sanded ready for epoxy and anti-foul, then once the rigger has done his work we will be good to go.
