My lift keel Sonata performs pretty OK downwind – you can lift the keel up and performance is comparable with a fin keel version. Upwind she is nowhere near as good as a fin keeler, in fact in a race against a Duet, the Duet was pretty nearly as good to windward.
Looking at the swinging keel – it looks like having a very small surface area and it would be relatively easy to either lengthen it or have a longer one made – possibly improving windward performance.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Would David Thomas know?
why change the way the boat is designed if you change the shape of the keel or length it will not be in class for
