Interior lining

14th February 2004

The cabin lining on my Sonata is shabby in places. I would like to replace it but it might be a big job – has anybody done this? Ideally I would get matching material and only do bits. The lining is off white, slightly textured, grey flecked the same as all other Sonatas I have seen. Does anybody know if it is still possible to get matching material 25 years on?

Hallo Simon,

We got rid of any linings at all and then painted the interior white. This made it seem more roomy inside and clean looking. The whiteness is broken up by the bulk head, seats and flooring etc. but you can paint in a horizontal stripe along middle height along the sides of the cabin where there is a little ridge and this help give it a more 3 dimensional look. This means no more sagging linings etc. However, please note that we are in Hong Kong where the weather is somewhat different from UK but I don’t see it should have that much affect.

best rgds,

Simon

I removed all the linings on my boat (hull sides and head lining) last year and replaced with the original material which I purchased from Toomer & Hayter in Poole.

Kind Regards

That’s probably what I will do, if I get my courage up! Was it OK to do or lots of hassle?

Guys

please remember removing the head lining will make your sonata out of class unless you install corrector wieghts,

otherwise you are out of class meaning breaking the rules which could affect you if you intend to use your sonatas for racing / nationals,

just thought id give you all somthing to think about????

I was looking at this as we do not have lining on our roof. I think the penalty is 10kg at shelf level on either side (i.e. 20kg in total). This seems quite a bit of weight even taking into account the fact that the penalty is stored lower in the boat. So we are considering installing lining on ours.

Does anyone know if you have to conform to class rules to race IRC?

i believe it does as sonata is an OOD yacht

when we did the nationals at our club (medway yacht club) the boats were checked at entry stage,

even sailing in OOD races the rules apply,

but i know that there are many boats out there that dont have certain items on board such as toilets, cookers, buckets, cushions, etc etc

but im a believer in sticking to the rules theres no need to cheat!
